Silicone rubber sheets and natural rubber sheets have significant differences in material properties, performance and application areas.
Material properties
Silicone rubber sheet is made of silicone oxygen compounds, belonging to a kind of synthetic rubber, with a high degree of high temperature and cold resistance; natural rubber sheet is extracted from the latex of the rubber tree, belonging to natural materials, the main component is cis-1,4-polyisoprene. Natural rubber sheet has better elasticity and flexibility, but its high temperature resistance and chemical stability are relatively weak.
Temperature resistance
Silicone rubber sheets have a wide range of temperature resistance and can maintain good physical properties between -60°C and 230°C, making them suitable for extreme temperature environments. Comparatively speaking, natural rubber sheets have a lower temperature resistance, with a working temperature range of -40°C to 80°C, beyond which performance deterioration occurs.
Chemical resistance
Silicone rubber sheets are more chemically stable and resistant to a wide range of chemicals, including weak acids, alkalis and oxides, and are not easily degraded by ozone or UV light. Natural rubber sheets, on the other hand, are less resistant to chemicals such as acids and alkalis, and are susceptible to aging by ozone and UV rays, making them unsuitable for long-term exposure to these environments.
Application Areas
Silicone rubber sheets are widely used in food processing, medical equipment, electronic components and other fields due to their non-toxicity, odourlessness, high temperature resistance and chemical resistance. Natural rubber sheets are more commonly used in the manufacturing of tyres, gaskets, shock absorbing components and other mechanical industries and in daily life due to their excellent elasticity and abrasion resistance.
Overall, silicone rubber sheets are suitable for more demanding environmental conditions, while natural rubber sheets are more often used in situations where high elasticity is required.
